From 19th to 21st December 2008 the internationally famous resort of Arosa was once again the focus of the snowboard world elite. This brought the public flocking in to watch the stars of the snowboarding world, as boarders from 23 nations competed at the very highest level in two disciplines (Snowboard Cross and Parallel Slalom) in the mountains of Arosa. Naturally, the list included a number of VIPs, which made this large event and its rich and varied supporting programme even more attractive.
Only Tanja Frieden was missing from the starting line-up: she had not fully recovered from her injury, which meant that our favourite was unfortunately out of the running. Instead she did some “trial runs” away from the pistes as part of her gradual return to boarding. Even so, Tanja was present in the finishing area and was the focus of attention wherever she went!

This year the main sponsors – alongside Swisscom – included Chiemsee for the first time! Swatch was the official tour sponsor – so we were in good company! The races were even broadcast live on Swiss television! Other media partners were 20 Minuten, Radio Zürisee and Radio Grischa.
The Chiemsee logo was clearly visible on the number bibs and appeared full-size on the start and finish gantries! Chiemsee was also given prominent billing in the printed programmes and on the homepage of Arosa Bergbahnen. The Chiemsee logo showed to great advantage in the live broadcasts from SF DRS! The images of the presentation ceremonies with the Chiemsee logo in the background were given international status through the media coverage!
The event organisation, in particular the contribution made by employees of Arosa Bergbahnen, was marked by its utter professionalism. The huge effort made by everyone and the excellent collaboration between athletes, helpers, service providers, sponsors and media combined to make the event such a success. One thing was clear: Arosa is going places!
Together with Arosa we Swiss were able to take pride in our medal achievements: the men may have failed to shine but when it came to the Cross event the ladies managed 1st place (Sandra Frei) and 4th place (Simona Meiler)!
The 4-man Mibelle Sampling Team and the two Chiemsee representatives arrived in Arosa on Saturday morning in heavy snow. Chiemsee was given a hearty welcome! A special tent was then set up ready for the autograph sessions with Tanja Frieden: inside there was a table with displays and Chiemsee products, sample boxes, flyers and autograph cards. It wasn’t long before it attracted the attention of international visitors who smelt the fragrances, tested the body lotions and wanted to buy the products there and then!
Unfortunately the weather didn’t play along; it continued to snow without interruption. This kept the crowd of visitors in the finishing area within manageable limits. Even so, there was a brisk distribution of the Chiemsee Love & Sport Passion samples and the specially printed flyers. The samples were particularly well received. After repeated announcements over the loudspeaker in the finishing area publicising the autograph hour with Tanja Frieden the flow of visitors to the tent increased: many fans wanted an autograph on their boards, helmets or jackets! And naturally a souvenir photo with Tanja, as is only to be expected. Despite the icy cold Tanja dazzled the fans with her most charming smile, signed autographs and praised the Chiemsee fragrances and body care products!
The new Chiemsee Classic line will be launched in MIGROS in January 2009: it has been available in Germany and Austria since November 2008.
